CLINICAL EVALUATION OF APAMARGA KSHARA TAILA UTTARA BASTI IN THE MANAGEMENT OF BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA: A CASE STUDY
Sagar Negi*, Sukhdeep Singh, Dr. Advait Gohil and Dr. Darshana Ramole
ABSTRACT Introduction: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common urological condition in elderly men. In Ayurveda, it correlates with Mutraghata, attributed to Vata Dosha imbalance. Limitations of conventional treatments have increased interest in non-invasive alternatives like Basti Chikitsa. Methodology: A 74-year-old male with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) underwent a 21-day course of Apamarga Kshara Taila Uttara Basti. The procedure was performed under aseptic conditions using 20 ml of medicated oil administered urethrally, following classical protocols. Results: Significant improvement was observed: International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) reduced from 21 to 5, prostate volume from 45 cc to 28 cc, and post-void urine from 20 cc to 05 cc. Lab parameters also improved. Discussion: The therapy exhibited effective Vata-Kapha Shamana, Lekhana, and Shodhana actions, offering symptomatic relief and anatomical normalization. This case supports Uttara Basti as a safe, cost-effective alternative for BPH management. Keywords: Apamarga kshara Taila, BPH, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, Uttara Basti.
