Apurva Atul Khatri*, Ganesh Dan and Dr. R. S. Unadkat

ABSTRACT

The term “Arsha” is derived from “Ru Gatau” dhatu with the suffix “Asun”, which means violent enemy.[1] The disease which acts like violent enemy for a patient is known as Arsha. Arsha is also included in Ashtamahagad by Acharya Sushrut.[2] Nasaarsha is Arsha present inside Nasa. Nasarsha mainly arises due to vitiated Vata, Pitta and KaphaDoshas. Mansa, Meda and Rakta Dhatu Dushti is also included in the formation of Nasaarsha.[3] The general treatment protocol for Arsha according to Ayurveda includes Bhaishaja (conservative/medical treatment), Shastra karma (operative procedure), Kshara karma (applying some alkaline drugs), Agnikarma (cauterization).[4] Nasarsha can be correlated with nasal polyp according to Modern Science. Nasal polyps are benign, inflammatory and hyperplastic outgrowths, which appears as grape shaped, smooth, soft, freely mobile mucosal swellings which can be evident on anteriorrhinoscopy. Management of nasal polyp includes contemporary usage of antibiotics, systemic and topical corticosteroids, decongestants and surgery. There are lot of chances of recurrence after surgery.

Keywords: Nasaarsha, Nasal polyp, Ksharkarma, Agnikarma.
