Tamanna Kumari* and Prof. (Dr.) D. B. Vaghela

ABSTRACT

Introduction - Pratishyaya (Rhinitis), is a condition characterized by inflammation of the nasal mucosal lining, often resulting in symptoms such as nasal congestion, sneezing, runny nose, cough, posterior rhinorrhea and itching. In Ayurvedic literature, Pratishyaya is described as a Nasagata Roga, caused by the imbalance in Vata and Kapha Doshas. Approximately 30%-40% of adults experience Rhinitis symptoms by age 18 to 30. Allergic rhinitis has an impact on QoL, including limitations on daily activity and decreased productivity at work. If left untreated, chronic inflammation can contribute to disease and poor immune system health. Vardhamana Pippali Yoga is a classical Ayurvedic formulation renowned for its therapeutic effects in rejuvenation (Rasayana) and disease management. Method - A 25year old female patient visited OPD of Shalakya department withcomplaints of nasal discharge, nasal congestion at night, cough with sputum, morning headache and reduced appetite. The complaints were recurring in nature for 3 years during seasonal changes and with faulty dietary intake. Based on history and clinical findings, the case was diagnosed as Kaphaja Pratishyaya. Vardhamana Pippali yoga was given orally with Anupana of Madhu for 15 days. Result - During treatment, changes in clinical symptoms were observed. Symptoms were relieved upto 75% by the end of treatment. Discussion- This case demonstrates application of oral administration of Vardhamana Pippali Yoga along with Madhu in management of Pratishyaya with its Anti-inflammatory, Mucolytic, expectorant effect along with working on root cause as Deepana-Pachana medicine and as immunity booster (Rasayana).
