ABSTRACT Depressive disorders are common, recurrent, and chronic, and require treatment. Maintenance treatment is indicated if the risk of recurrence is high. The range of available medications is considerable, and the benefit/risk ratio is acceptable. Depression is diagnosable across the life span and treatable at every age. The aim of the study is to evaluate the anti-depressant activity of hydroethanolic extract of Croton hirtus in mice. Phytochemical studies confirm the presence of essential primary metabolites which are required for the treatment of depression. The test drug promotes anti-depressant activity which mimics the activity of the standard drug. Antioxidant activity of the drug promotes the free radical scavenging and reduces the oxidative stress (i.e) DPPH & No2. The findings of present analysis demonstrate that HECH promotes the dose dependent significant action when compared to standard. Finally, we concluded that the Hydroethanolic extract of croton hirtus produces their effect against the depression due to the presence of Flavonoids & Polyphenolic compounds.
