HARNESSING SEMECARPUS ANACARDIUM FOR ANTI-CARCINOGENIC ACTIVITY IN PHYTO THERAPEUTIC PERSPECTIVE

ABSTRACT Semecarpus anacardium Linn. (S.A) of the family Anacardiaceae is a well-known medicinal plant in Siddha system of Medicine. It has been found to have lot of medicinal properties. It has been investigated for its potential anti-cancer properties. Semecarpus anacardium is a medium sized tree found in most deciduous forests in all over the country. Cancer is a generic term for a large group of disease that can affect any part of the body. Cancer arises from one single cell. The transformation from a normal cell into a tumor cell is a multistage process. The Plant active ingredients include a variety of bioactivities and are mostly found in the fruit and Nuts. Research has shown that the plant exhibits various pharmacological activities, including anti- inflammatory, anti-arthritic, anti-diabetic and anti-tumor effect. The active compounds isolated from Semecarpus anacardium, such asBilawanol, Cardol and anacardic acids have demonstrated cytotoxic effects against various cancer cell lines. These compounds have shown potential in inhibiting cancer cell proliferation including apoptosis and preventing angiogenesis. According to experimental research, its component has strong anti-carcinogenic properties including the capacity to stop the formation of tumors. In recent times, a growing body of research has emerged indicating that the extract and active components found in these herbs qualities that can potentially inhibit the development of cancer and inflammatory markers. This study aims to provide comprehensive review of the existing literature on the pharmacological mechanism underlying the effects of extracts and phytochemicals of Semecarpus anacardium herb in anticancer activity.
