Dr. Satendra Pal*, Dr. Neha Bhatt, Dr. Kalpna Negi, Dr. Vaishali Rani, Dr. Vivek Bisht
ABSTRACT Ocimum sanctum Linn., commonly known as Tulsi or Holy Basil, is considered a sacred plant in Ayurveda, India's traditional medicine system. This review study explores classical Ayurvedic texts to emphasize Tulsi's classical uses, pharmacological features, and medicinal value. Tulsi is classified as a "Rasayana" herb, which means it promotes longevity, boosts immunity, and maintains body equilibrium. Many of these classical claims have been validated by modern research, which has shown that Tulsi has adaptogenic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory properties. This review integrates old tradition with modern scientific findings, attempting to connect traditional knowledge with evidence-based medicine and emphasizing value of Tulsi in both classical and contemporary healthcare practices. Keywords: Tulsi, Ocimum sanctum, Ayurveda, Rasayana, pharmacological activities, Ayurvedic pharmacology. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
