FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF TRANSFEROSOME HYDROGEL OF SALICYLIC ACID FOR THE TREATMENT OF PSORIASIS
Adarsh Jedhe*, Dr. Nidhi Bais, Dr. Sachin K. Jain and Dr. Sudha Vengurlekar
ABSTRACT Salicylic acid (SA) is a beta hydroxy acid and has multifunctional uses in the treatment of various diseases in skin such as acne, psoriasis, and photoaging. Transferosome formulation is used for effective delivery of nonsteriodal anti inflammatory agents. So that the drug will be choose salicylic acid which is NSAID category. Soya-phosphatidylcholine, Span 80 and Salicylic acid were dissolved alcohol. Then solution was put in a round bottom flask. These were then dissolved by shaking. Thin film was then formed by keeping it in the rotator vaccum evaporator at 400C. Final traces of solvent are removed under vacuum. The deposited lipid film is hydrated with the appropriate buffer by rotation at 60 rpm for 1 hour at room temperature. The resulting vesicles are swollen for 2 hours at room temperature. The multilamellar lipid vesicles (MLV) are then sonicated at room temperature. This thin film was then hydrated by phosphate buffer saline to get the transferosome. The vesicle size of all transfersomess varied between 161.08 and 552.8 nm where as entrapment efficiency was found between 63.70 to 90.89%. Drug content was found to be 97.5 to 98.25% which shows the good capacity of formulation to hold the drug. The pH values of the prepared transfersomes gels were within acceptable limits of 6.9-7.3. The spreadability was measured on the basis of slip and drag characteristics of the gels and was in the range of 10.75 - 11.75 gms. cm. /sec. In vitro drug release was found to be between 80 to 90 %.
