SCIENTIFIC EVALUATION OF AGNI IN DIGESTION AND METABOLISM

ABSTRACT “Shanto Agne Mriyate, Yukte Chiran Jeevatyanamaya; Extinction of Agni leads to death, Its proper maintenance helps a person to live longer and its impairment gives rise to diseases. Therefore, Jatargni is considered to be the root of the most important factor of living beings. Ingested food is to be digested, metabolized, absorbed and assimilated which is unavoidable for the maintenance of life and is performed by the Prakruta Agni, which is also responsible for vital functions of the body. The process of digestion and metabolism works in coordination with three sets of Agni- Jataragni, Bhutagni and Dhatvagni and three stages of Avastha Paka- Madhura, Amla, Katu which takes place in Stomach, Duodenum and intestine. When Agni is functioning properly, it helps with digestion, elimination and generating energy.
