*Miss. Akanksha N. Mote, Mr. Mukund N. Urade, Dr. R. G. Patrakar
ABSTRACT Mexico is the original site of the evergreen climber Antigonon Leptopus Hook & Arn. (Polygonaceae). In many regions of the world, the plant's seeds, tubers, and the flowers are utilized as food. Tea prepared from aerial parts is used for pain relief and treat common colds. The leaves are used as a heart tonic and to treat diabetes, low blood pressure, and urinary issues. It also possesses anticancer and xanthine oxidase inhibitory properties. Originally from Mexico, it is found all across the world, including India. A thorough literature study was conducted for this review in order to bring up-to-date knowledge on the pharmacological activity, phytochemistry, and therapeutic applications of Antigonon Leptopus Hook &Arn. Several kinds of phytochemicals are present in the plant. Various plant components contain alkaloids, phenolic chemicals, saponins, triterpenoids, and glycosides. Among the compounds found in the plant are trihydroxy benzaldehyde, ferulic acid, quercetin-3-rhamnoside, anthraquinones, b-sitosterol, and kaempherol-3-glucoside. A thorough analysis of the literature was done for this review in order to bring up-to-date knowledge on the botanical description, phytochemistry, pharmacological characteristics, and ecological significance of Antigonon Leptopus Hook & Arn. A wide variety of phytochemicals are reported to be present in the plant. Different parts of the plant contain different types of alkaloids, phenolic compounds, saponins, triterpenoids, and glycosides. In many parts of the world, the plant is used ethnomedically to cure a wide range of illnesses, such as stomach-aches, flu, diabetes, pain, coughing, and dermatological conditions. Several parts of the plant are being studied for their pharmacological properties. Antibacterial, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, and antidiabetic qualities are all well-known to exist in the plant. As larvicides, anti-helminthics, and environmentally friendly insecticides, this comprehensive overview also covers ecological upkeep. Based on the data collected, the literature review indicates that Antigonon Leptopus Hook & Arn. may be used in ethnomedicine and that the plant may be used to create pharmaceuticals to cure illnesses.
