FORMULATION AND EVALUATE HERBAL COAT TO SYNTHETIC DRUG BY USING GUM ACACIA

ABSTRACT The integration of herbal constituents into conventional pharmaceutical systems is gaining increasing attention for its potential to enhance therapeutic outcomes and minimize adverse effects. This study aims to formulate and evaluate a natural coating system for synthetic drug tablets using Gum Acacia, a biocompatible polysaccharide, in combination with a selected herbal extract. Gum Acacia was employed as a primary film-forming agent due to its excellent binding, emulsifying, and stabilizing properties. The coating formulation was prepared by incorporating a standardized herbal extract into an aqueous Gum Acacia solution, along with suitable plasticizers to enhance film flexibility. Synthetic drug tablets, such as paracetamol, were coated using a pan coating method and subsequently dried undercontrolled conditions. The coated tablets were evaluated for mechanical properties (hardness, friability), physicochemical characteristics (coating thickness, uniformity, disintegration), and drug release behaviour using standard pharmacopeial methods. The results demonstrated that Gum Acacia-based herbal coatings not only maintained tablet integrity but also improved functional attributes such as dissolution profile and bioactivity. This approach represents a promising strategy for enhancing the value of conventional drugs through the incorporation of natural, therapeutic coatings.
