A PHARMACOLOGICAL AND PHYTOCHEMICAL PROFILE OF JUGLANCE REGIA

ABSTRACT Herbal medicine has experienced rapid growth in the last few decades. Since it comes from nature and has few negative effects, it is becoming more and more popular in both developed and developing nations. Walnut, or Juglana regia (Juglandaceae), is one such medicinal plant. The plant's bark, leaves, flowers, seeds, oil, and other parts are all essential. This plant's oil is widely utilized in homeopathic, allopathic, Unani, and ayurvedic medicinal systems. Juglans regia L. Despite having positive effects like anti-oxidant, Anti-histamic, antibacterial, immunomodulatory, antiulcer, hepatoprotective, antidiabetic, anti inflammatory, antifertility, antimicrobial activity, and medicinal qualities, the plant has historically been used as a, purgative, laxative, fungicide and fertilizer among other things. The world's most prevalent tree walnuts, have this function because of its significant phytochemical contents, which include flavonoids, saponins, glycosides, alkaloids, and steroids, among others. Common names for the Juglance regia include English walnut, Persian walnut, white walnut, and common walnut. Its scientific name is Juglans regia (J. regia), and it is a member of the Juglandaceae family. The abundance of phytochemical components found in walnuts, including flavonoids, carotenoids, alkaloids, nitrogen-containing compounds, and other polyphenolics, is the main cause of the variety of health benefits that walnuts provide for people. This review article aims to highlight the extant information on J. regia in terms of traditional, botany, phytoconstituents, and a synopsis of diverse pharmacological effects.
