PHYTOPHARMACOLOGICAL INSIGHTS INTO ANTIDIABETIC POTENTIAL OF TRADITIONAL MEDICINAL PLANTS: A MOLECULAR AND CLINICAL PERSPECTIVE

ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus is one of the leading health issues globally, incidence and related mortality are on the rise. Inadequate control of blood glucose imposes severe penalties for alth. Traditional antidiabetic drugs are effective, but they also with irreversible side effects. At the same time, medicinal plants have the potential as a source of alternative antidiabetic agents. Explanations of examples of antidiabetic medicinal plants are given with preclinical and clinical characteristics. The positive potential of the plant matrix for each one of them is provided by the synergetic and concerted activity of their bioprofile of active compounds.
