3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ORAL DOSAGE FORMS

ABSTRACT Oral dosage forms are the most convenient dosage forms, which can be easily administered into the body and has good patient compliance. 33D printing technology is the newly emerging technology in the field of pharmacy which helps in the designing of various pharmaceutical formulations by using special softwares such as Computer Aided Drug Designing (CADD). This technology prepares the oral dosage forms layer by layer to produce a stable entity. 3D technology is helpful in the development of novel drug delivery systems like personalised or customised medicines. This review summarises the different methods, advantages, disadvantages, regulatory framework and future development of the 3D printing technology in the field of pharmacy.
