A REVIEW ON INSIGHTS OF ETHOSOMES
Kamathe Shital*, Kangralkar Vishnu, Nagesh C., Kotekar Devika, Chandgadkar Varsha and Hebbalkar Ajinkya
ABSTRACT Ethosomes are emerging as advanced carriers for the delivery of drugs, offering a promising alternative to traditional drug delivery systems. These lipid based carriers, composed of ethanol, water and phospholipids provide significant advantages over other systems, such as polymeric nanoparticles, liposomes, proniosomes by enhancing drug penetration through the skin and reducing associated side effects. Ethosomes are considered particularly effective for targeted and controlled drug delivery. This review discusses the various formulation methods of ethosomes, highlighting the excipients used and their effects on the properties of ethosomes. Emphasis is placed on the formulation approach, including key factors like lipid composition, ethanol concentration, and the preparation techniques employed.Additionally, the review covers the applications of ethosomes in delivering a variety of drugs, covering topical treatments to systemic therapies. Ethosomes represent a powerful tool for improving the effectiveness and safety of drug delivery, particularly for dermatological and transdermal applications. Keywords: Ethosomes, Phospholipids, Lipid-based carrier, Drug delivery, Ethanol. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
