JOJOBA: EXPLORING THE MULTI FACETED BENEFIT OF A DESERT WONDER PLANT

ABSTRACT This shrub is found within the desert regions of Arizona, California and Mexico. This plant may reach a height of 3 meters and has well adaption which enable this plant grow in desert areas. The jojoba seeds give rise to the production of jojoba oil which is a liquid wax ester with high fatty acid content that makes it highly sought after in cosmetics formulation. The jojoba plant is also known as simmondsia chinensis are silient shrub native to the deserts of the south western United States and northern Mexico, has garnered attention for its exceptional adaptability and versatile applications. This hardy plant thrives in arid climates and requires little to no water and maintenance, thus making itan eco-friendly crop. The most interesting part of the jojoba plant entails its seeds, which contain the essential oil. This type of oil is known to be structurally similar to human skin oil due to the lack of plant triglycerides. It has great moisturizing and protective characteristics that are very useful in cosmetics and skin care products. Jojoba oil is non-acne pores long-lasting, and does not break down under various conditions which is the reason why they are used in a variety of formulations from moisturizers to sunscreens. The cosmetic benefits are further enhanced by the fact that the jojoba oil can be utilizable in fields such as bio fuels, lubricants, and other superlative applications making it a sustainable and prospective crop.
