A REVIEW ON CHEWING GUM: TRENDS, INNOVATIONS, AND IMPLICATIONS

ABSTRACT Chewing gums are portable medication delivery devices. Unlike chewable pills, medicated gums are not meant to be eaten and may be removed from the site of application without the need of intrusive methods. Medicated chewing gum MCG is a solid, single dosage solution. In terms of patient convenience, it is discrete and straightforward administration without water that encourages increased compliance. A chewing gum formulation is an ideal alternative for acute therapy since it may be taken anywhere. The benefits for youngsters and patients who have difficulty swallowing medications are evident. The medicated chewing gums are solid, single-dose solutions with a foundation made mostly of gums that are meant to be chewed rather than ingested. This idea is reinforced by claims that chewing sugar-free gum can help lower the risk of dental caries (cavities). The goal of this systematic review is to evaluate available data about the potential therapeutic efficacy of sugar-free chewing gum for patients. MCG is the most recent system, with potential applications in pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter medications, and nutraceuticals. Medicated chewing gums, unlike chewable pills, are not intended to be eaten and may be removed from the site of application without the need of intrusive methods. Furthermore, medicated chewing gums necessitate vigorous and continual masticatory actions for medication activation and continuance.
