ABSTRACT Mouth ulcers represent a global oral health problem that causes sharp lesions which can hinder patient's daily activities like eating or even talking. Herbal medicine has shown great promise as an alternative to chemically synthesized medicines due to their safety and therapeutic value. The study was aimed at formulating and evaluating antiulcer gummies containing Ocimum sanctum extract which is renowned for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and healing properties. Aqueous extract was prepared from the Ocimum sanctum leaves by hydroalcoholic method and incorporated into gummy base using natural polymers and sweeteners to ensure palatability and compliance. The prepared gummies were analysed for some physicochemical properties like pH, loss on drying, and consistency of drug content. Organoleptic evaluation showed that the gummies made from Ocimum sanctum were found to possess good senses and aesthetic qualities. Their therapeutic potential is also enhanced by the sustained release from the matrix. This study has demonstrated that mouth ulcers could be managed with herbal-based gummy formulations as an efficient and convenient dosage form.
