A REVIEW ON PHARMACOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF INDOLE DERIVATIVES FOR ANTIFUNGAL THERAPY
Anuj Kumar Sharma*, Preeti Anand and Robin Singh
ABSTRACT Indole derivatives have garnered significant attention in the field of medicinal chemistry due to their diverse pharmacological activities, including potent antifungal properties. This review focuses on the pharmacological evaluation of indole-based compounds as potential antifungal agents. The article summarizes the synthesis of various indole derivatives and their structural modifications aimed at enhancing antifungal efficacy. It highlights the mechanisms of action, including the inhibition of key fungal enzymes, disruption of cell membrane integrity, and interference with fungal cell wall biosynthesis. Additionally, the review provides an overview of in vitro and in vivo studies, examining their spectrum of activity against common pathogenic fungi, such as Candida, Aspergillus, and Cryptococcus species. The pharmacokinetic properties, toxicity profiles, and challenges in translating these compounds into clinical applications are also discussed.
