PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND INVITRO ANTI UROLITHIATIC ACTIVITY OF LEAVES OF OCIMUM BASILICUM

ABSTRACT Urolithiasis is refers to the formation stone in the urinary system, i.e. in the kidney and urinary bladder, ureter or in the urethra is called urolithiasis. It is one of the major diseases of the urinary tract. Herbal plants have been used against various diseases for thousands of years and 80% of world population depends on herbal plants. Methanolic and aqueous leaf extract of ocimum basilicum subjected to preliminary phytochemical screening and invitro anti urolithiatic activity. Methanolic extract of ocimum basilicum shows near percent dissolution of calcium oxalate to standard drug (Neeri) and methanol extract shows more percent dissolution of calcium oxalate than aqueous extract.
