EFFECT OF TAKRA BASTI IN GRAHANI – A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT Grahaniroga, as described in Ayurveda encompasses a spectrum of digestive disorders rooted in Agni Dushti and formation of Ama. It shares significant clinical resemble with IBS, a common functional GI disorder in contemporary medicine. IBS is increasingly recognized as psychosomatic disorder, often precipitated by factors such as mental stress, irregular eating habits, sedentary lifestyle – conditions that are wide spread in modern era. Ayurveda identifies these causes as Mithya Ahara-Vihara; Mandagni and Manasika Nidana such as Chinta, Shoka and Bhaya, all contributing to pathogenesis of Grahani. A 18 year old male patient complaining of alternate episodes of constipation and diarrhea, abdominal pain while defecation and passing of bowel immediately after having food since 2 years, representing classical Grahani symptoms. For which Takra Basti, a therapeutic enema using medicated butter milk was administered. It is classical interventionspecifically indicated for Pakvashayagata vikaras. With properties like Deepana, Pachana, Grahi and Vatashamana. Takra Basti helps restore functions of Agni, eliminate accumulated Ama, and normalizes bowel movements. This article explores the effective therapeutic role of Takra Basti in management of GrahaniRoga with special reference to IBS. By integrating classical Ayurvedic principles with contemporary clinical understanding, the study emphasizes the relevance and potential of Ayurvedic therapeutics in addressing modern lifestyle disorders.
