Abstract

MOUTH DISSOLVING FILM OF CINNARIZINE HAVING GOOD TENSILE STRENGTH AND FASTER DISINTEGRATION TIME

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Cinnarizine is an antihistaminic medication that is used to treat motion sickness as well as sickness caused by inner ear problems such as vertigo, tinnitus, and Ménière's disease. The current study aimed to create an oral disintegrating film of cinnarizine with a disintegrating time of less than 30 seconds and sufficient mechanical strength. Oral disintegrating films are a better option than traditional dosage forms such as mouth dissolving tablets. Methods: Solvent casting method was used to create oral disintegrating films using PEG 400 as the plasticizer and HPMC E15 as the film former. To optimise the disintegration time and tensile strength of oral disintegrating films, a 32-factorial design was used. In vitro dissolution studies of mouth dissolving films were carried out using phosphate buffer as dissolution medium. Result: It was found that formulation containing 300 mg of HPMC E15 and 3%PEG 400 resulted in optimum disintegration time of 18 second and had good tensile strength. Conclusion: An optimal combination of HPMC E15 and PEG 400 disintegrates quickly and has good tensile strength. When the predicted values of disintegration time and tensile strength were compared to the actual values, no significant difference was found.
