Abstract

AYURVEDA MANAGEMENT OF DUSTAPRATISHYAYA (SINUSITIS)-A CASE REPORT

Dr. Snehlata Yadav* and Dr. Neha Tank

ABSTRACT

Sinusitis refers to the inflammation of the sinus mucosa. It can be acute or chronic and typically affects the paranasal sinuses. In Ayurveda texts, five types of Pratishyaya (sinusitis) are described. Dushta Pratishyaya corresponds to the chronic stage of Pratishyaya although not a separate disease entity, represents a further vitiated condition of the doshas. Methods: An 80 years old, male patient visited the OPD of Panchakarma with the complaints of Pain localised at the sinus region, persistent headache, nasal congestion and facial pain since 3 to 4 months. He underwent MRI scan where he was diagnosed sinusitis. Surgical intervention was advised, but the patient opted for Ayurveda treatment. Discussion: Shadbindu taila nasya 8 drops in each nostril was given for 2 days followed by Katphala Churna Pradhamana nasya in the dose of 3 pinch in both nostrils for 14 days in 2 sittings with a gap of 2 days in between. Mukha Bashpa Swedana was given in continuation with the procedures. Shadbindu taila was given for Utkleshana of the doshas, with the effects of Snehena. After which the doshas easily slipped out with the help of Pradhamana. Conclusion: There was significant relief in the symptoms and MRI.

Keywords: Dushtpratishaya, Sinusitis, Pradhamana nasya.
