INNOVATIVE FORMULATION FOR ORAL ULCER TREATMENT: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW ON EXISTING THERAPIES AND ADVANCES

ABSTRACT This comprehensive review explores innovative formulations for the treatment of oral ulcers, emphasizing the need for effective management strategies due to the discomfort and pain associated with these lesions. Oral ulcers, classified as acute or chronic, presents a significant clinical challenge, necessitating a thorough understanding of existing therapies and advancements in treatment options. The paper categorizes various types of oral ulcers and outlines the limitations of conventional solid, liquid and semi-solid dosage forms. It highlights the emergence of novel drug delivery systems, particularly oral films and nanoparticles, which enhances bioavailability and patient compliance. The review discusses the preparation methods for these advanced therapies including solvent casting and hot melt extrusion, alongside their benefits over traditional formulations. Additionally, it examines the role of herbal remedies in symptoms management and therapeutic advantages of nanoparticles in enhancing drug delivery to mucosal surfaces. The findings underscore the potential of these innovative formulations to improve therapeutic outcomes in oral ulcer management, paving the way for future research and development in this field.
