Abstract

PHYTOCHEMICAL PROFILING AND EXTRACTION DYNAMICS OF ADARAK SATVA: A COMPREHENSIVE PHARMACEUTICAL INVESTIGATION

Vishvamitra Pandey*

ABSTRACT

Adarak (Zingiber officinale), a perennial herbaceous plant from the Zingiberaceae family, is primarily valued for its rhizome, extensively used in both culinary and medicinal applications. Native to southern Asia, it is now cultivated in tropical regions such as Jamaica, China, Nigeria, Haiti, and India. This study aims to prepare Adraka Satva using standardized pharmaceutical procedures and conduct its analytical evaluation. Fresh Adraka was procured locally, processed to extract Swarasa, and subsequently concentrated into Satva. The extraction involved cleaning, peeling, crushing, and squeezing the rhizomes to obtain the juice, which was then dried using a hot water bath set at 60°C. The yield observations recorded 115 grams of raw Adraka, producing 4.87 grams of final product, indicating a 4.2% yield. Analytical studies on Adraka Satva revealed a fine powder with a light beige color, characteristic odor, and pungent-slightly sweet taste, with a pH of 5.6. Qualitative phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and phenolics.Traditional Ayurvedic literature supports the use of ginger for various ailments, including inflammatory diseases. It exhibits a wide range of pharmacological activities such as antiemetic, antiulcer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiplatelet, glucose and lipid-lowering, cardiovascular, antimicrobial, gastro-protective, respiratory protection, neuro-protective, and anticancer effects. Adarak is also renowned for alleviating common cold, headaches, and menstrual discomfort, and is praised for its digestive benefits, enhancing nutrient absorption and circulation. The study underscores the significance of proper pharmaceutical processes,WORLD JOURNAL OF PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCESSJIF Impact Factor 8.025Volume 14, Issue 5, 1206-1212 Research Article ISSN 2278 – 4357Article Received on20 March 2025,Revised on 10 April 2025,Accepted on 30 April 2025DOI: 10.20959/wjpps20255-29773*Corresponding AuthorDr. Vishvamitra PandeyAssistant Professor, Department of Kayachikitsa, Dr. Vijay Ayurvedic Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Varanasi-221116, Uttar Pradesh.js226622@gmail.comwww.wjpps.com │ Vol 14, Issue 5, 2025. │ ISO 9001:2015 Certified Journal │Pandey.
