EFFECTS OF METAL SINGING BOWLS SOUND MEDITATION ON MENTAL WELLBEING OF COLLEGE STUDENTS: AN INTERVENTIONAL STUDY
Ms. Arti Sinha* and Dr. Akhilesh Kumar Singh
ABSTRACT Mental well-being is one of the outcome measures in mental health services. The World Health Organization defines mental well-being as an individual's ability to develop their potential, work productively and creatively, build strong and positive relationships with others and contribute to their community.[1] Well-being has been time and again been declared / recognized as a measure of national prosperity and linked to improved physical and mental health. It has been identified as a public health target and criterion for commissioning and assessing mental health services.[2] Evaluating interventions to improve mental well-being in people with mental illness depends on valid measurement. However, there is only limited evidence to guide the assessment of mental well-being in the context of achieving valid measurement. Thus, lack of tools to achieve valid assessment is a significant barrier to studying mental well-being and its potential determinants in people with mental illness. Since mental well-being is a state of positive mental health, measures should comprise positively phrased items, such as those which make up the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS), WHO-Five Well-Being Index (WHO-5) and the Satisfaction with Life Scale.[3] In India, over 14% of the population suffers from mental health disorders, with older adult females being disproportionately affected.[4] The country faces a significant economic burden due to mental health conditions, estimated at USD 1.03 trillion between 2012 and 2030.[5] Despite such staggering numbers intervention of professionals in case of mental health issues remains very low, and such low numbers can be attributed to several factors including the attitude of society towards mental health issues. In this backdrop non-invasive, non-pharmacological, safe and personalized interventions can play a major role in addressing mental health and wellness goals of the Indian population. Mental and substance use disorders are some of the leading causes of disability globally. Depressive and anxiety disorders account for more than 970 million prevalent cases globally.[6] Keywords: .
