NANOTECHNOLOGY: A RECENT APPROACH FOR OCULAR DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM
Rushikesh B. Katkar* and Dr. Jaya Sharma
ABSTRACT In current drug delivery scenario, despite numerous scientific efforts, efficient ocular drug delivery remains a challenge for pharmaceutical scientists. In ocular drug delivery system, ocular infections are treated by various topical drug applications in the form of solutions, suspensions and ointment. These conventional dosage forms suffer from the problems of poor ocular bioavailability due to minimum ocular residence time, because of various anatomical and pathophysiological barriers prevailing in the eye. This review provides an insight into the various constraints associated with ocular drug delivery, summarizes recent findings and applications of various nanoparticulate systems like nanosuspensions and nanoparticles in the field of ocular drug delivery and review also summarizes the various method of preparation of nanocarriers for ophthalmic drug delivery.
