Abstract

ADVANCES IN TRANSDERMAL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEMS OF TELMISARTAN TO REDUCE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

Ushasi Bhattacharjee, Priyanka Ray, Tamalika Chakraborty and Prapti Chakraborty*

ABSTRACT

Current progression in TDDS for Telmisartan, a medicine used to treat raised blood pressure, provide significant boosts in managing hypertension by dealing with the drawbacks of administering the drug enterally or orally. Telmisartan administered orally routinely experiences problems like inconsistent absorption and being broken down in the hepatic region before reaching the systematics, which in turn can influence its efficacy in the treatment process. The current TDDS methods created to improvise the delivery and effectiveness of Telmisartan. Substantial progress has been constructed with microneedle arrays that pierce the skin to enhance drug absorption and iontophoresis that utilises electric currents to deliver drugs into the systemic. Nanoparticle carriers have been made to intensify the solubility and stability of Telmisartan, leading to enhancedpharmacokinetics. Further it includes utilizing of chemical permeation enhancers and micro emulsion-based systems to magnify drug absorption by upgrading solubility and dermis penetrability. Hydrogel patches provide an extended-release system and generate a suitable setting for drug perception. Ultrasound-enhanced delivery methods along with thermos responsive systems provide controlled release by adjusting dermis temperature and temporarily shedding the stratum corneum. Furthermore, bio adhesive patches vow reliable and uniform drug release by adhering firmly to the dermis, limiting the probability of patch movement. All these TDDS technologies provide improved curative outcomes and escalate patient compliance by addressing the curb of enteral or oral administration, making them a notable progression in raised blood pressure management.
