Abstract

UTILITY OF DUGDHA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF UDARA ROGA: A LITERATURE REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Dugdha or milk, is essential to living a wholesome and nourishing life on a regular basis. The sole thing that indicates the significance of Dugdha is that it is the first food a human being eats after birth and is Satmya Ahara Dravya for all ages; for these reasons, Acharya Charak refers to Dugdha as Nitya Sevaniya Dravya. An explanation of how Dugdha is used in the several forms of Udara Roga described in classical writings, both as an Ahara Dravya and as a Chikitsa Dravya. The Ayurvedic literature mentions a variety of sources for Dugdha (Godugdha, Ustra Dugdha, Aja Dugdha etc.), its qualities and recipes created with it, as well as its therapeutic usefulness in the management of Udara Roga. Method: Review of the important role that Dugdha plays as Ahara Dravya in the treatment of Udara Roga was conducted from various Ayurvedic classics, including Charak Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Astang Hridaya etc. Result: The review discovered that several Ayurvedic classics mention Dugdha asa treatment for Udara Roga. It also referred to different sources of Dugdha, such as Aja, Go, and Ushtra Dugdha. Additionally, many recipes made with Dugdha are mentioned in the Samhita and are given to individuals as Pathya Dravya (Ahara Dravya) in the management of Udara Roga. Discussion: Dugdha is used as Ahara Dravya in management of Udara Roga. It is proven to be effective in various types of Udara Roga like Vatodara, Pittodara, Jalodara etc because of its nutritious properties which is give strength to individual after rational treatment of Udara Roga.
