SUCCESSFUL AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF CHRONIC NON HEALING ULCER: A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT Ayurvedicclassical treatises have described elaborately aboutDushtavrana (non healing wound) as well as its management. W ideapplication of compound formulation s, oil and ghee for oral and localadministration also can be seen in Ayurveda . However, there is a gapbetween scientific validation and demand for a better medication forwound healing amidst wide acceptance of Modern medicine s .Presenting a case of a 56 ‑ year ‑ old male patient, with Chronicnon ‑ healing wound on dorsal surface of the left hand measuring 9×6× 0.5 cm with persisting pain, discharge, redness, mild itching andfoul smell for 10 months Laboratory tests necessary for the patientwere done pri or to initiate the treatment. The wound was irrigated dailywith Triphala K ashayam followed by dressing with Murivenna Tail aalong with o ral intake of Kaishore guggulu and some other Ayurvedicformulations for 2weeks to 8 weeks.Follow up was done periodic ally on 0, 7 th 14 th , 28 th42 nd and 56 th Day with Bates Jensen wound assessment tool . This regimen was proved to beeffective in acceleration of epithelization and wound healing . N o evidence of adverse reactionwas reported during and after treatment.
