Abstract

SCOPE OF AGADTANTRA (AYURVEDIC TOXICOLOGY) IN PREVENTION & CURE OF ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICITY W.S.R. JANPADODHVANSA: A REVIEW

Dr. Monika J. Patel*

ABSTRACT

Living organisms are primarily exposed to environmental toxicity through the processes of bioaccumulation and biomagnification. In the current era of urbanization and modernization, environmental toxicity has emerged as the most dangerous situation. Though many remedial measures are being taken, some serious call for action globally should be taken to make the efforts effective. Agadtantra is a branch of Astanga Ayurveda that focuses on identification and treatment of poisoning occurring from various kinds of mineral, plant, and animal kingdoms, as well as synthetic poisons. The concept of contamination of the air, water, and land has also been addressed in a number of significant literary works, and its contribution to diseases and the downfall of civilizations has been clarified. Environmental toxicity can be defined as Janapadodhwansa in Ayurveda. Under Janapadodhwansa, four main factors —Vayu (air), Jala (water), Desha (land), and Kaala (season)—are explained. These factors increase in hazard in the following order. For these Janapadodhwansa factors, numerous formulas and methods are described. So, here an attempt is made to find out the solution for this widespread emerging problem ‘Environmental Toxicity’ through our Ancient scientific methods.

Keywords: Environmental Toxicity, Janapadodhwansa, Air Pollution, Water Pollution, Land Pollution, Ayurveda.
