CARBAMAZEPINE INDUCED EXANTHEM: A CASE REPORT ON DRUG-RELATED CUTANANEOUS ADVERSE REACTIONS
Lakshmi*, Anna B. Varghese and Akhila Ann Cherian
ABSTRACT Carbamazepine, a commonly prescribed anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer, is associated with various adverse drug reactions, including cutaneous eruptions. Exanthematous drug eruptions also known as morbilliform or maculopapular rashes are among the most frequent hypersensitivity reactions linked to carbamazepine. Here we present the case of a 56-year-old female with exanthem while on treatment with Carbamazepine. This case highlights the importance of early recognition and management of carbamazepine-induced exanthem to prevent progression to severe cutaneous adverse reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) or Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (TEN). Keywords: Carbamazepine, Exanthem, Drug Reaction, Cutaneous Adverse Reactions. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
