ABSTRACT The human skin, making approximately up to 16% of an adult body weight, is a crucial barrier against environmental stressors like ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Skin aging results from intrinsic and extrinsic factors, with visible signs typically appearing between the ages of 25 and 30. Structurally, the skin consists of the epidermis, subcutaneous tissue and the dermis, each contributing to protection, sensation, and thermoregulation. Various aging theories, including evolutionary, systemic, and molecular perspectives, explain the biological mechanisms behind skin aging. Recently, digital aging has become a growing concern due to prolonged exposure to blue light and electromagnetic radiation from digital screens, which accelerate oxidative stress and inflammation, leading to premature skin aging. Herbal-based formulations offer a promising solution by utilizing plant-derived bioactives rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties to combat digital aging effects. Delivery systems such as creams, gels, and serums enhance the efficacy of these herbal ingredients. However, challenges like stability, regulatory compliance, and the necessity for extensive clinical validation must be addressed to ensure product safety and effectiveness. Future advancements in herbal skincare focus on innovative delivery methods, including Nano formulations and encapsulated actives, to improve bioavailability and targeted action. Additionally, synergistic combinations of herbal extracts may further enhance anti-aging benefits, making way for more sustainable and effective skincare solutions in an era of increased digital exposure.
