PHARMACEUTICAL STANDARDIZATION OF SINHANADA GUGGULU: PHYSICOCHEMICAL, PHYTOCHEMICAL, AND BIOACTIVE EVALUATION
Tusharkumar Chaudhary* and Mahesh Madalageri
ABSTRACT Sinhanada Guggulu is a traditional Ayurvedic formulation used to treat inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Its pharmacological efficacy and safety are often attributed to its active ingredients, including Guggulu (Commiphora wightii), Vidanga (Embelia ribes), and Pippali (Piper longum), among others. However, the lack of standardization in its preparation and composition raises concerns regarding consistency and quality control. This study aims to standardize Sinhanada Guggulu by evaluating its physicochemical properties, active ingredient content, and bioactive potential. Various quality control parameters such as moisture content, ash values, heavy metal analysis, and microbial contamination were assessed, confirming the formulation’s compliance with safety standards. Phytochemical analysis through HPLC and TLC revealed the presence of significant levels of bioactive compounds such as Guggulsterone and Embelin.Additionally, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities were evaluated using DPPH and COX-2 inhibition assays, respectively, showing moderate antioxidant and promising anti-inflammatory properties. The results of this study provide a basis for the pharmaceutical standardization of Sinhanada Guggulu, ensuring consistent quality, safety, and therapeutic efficacy for its use in managing inflammatory conditions.
