Dr. R. Sundhararajan, Dr. G. Rajalakshmi*, Sathya Priya S., Selventhiran S., Seyed Ibrahim J. and Santhosh M.
ABSTRACT Phyllanthus amarus is a traditional medicinal plant with antioxidant, hepatoprotective, antibacterial and antifungal properties. The flavonoid present is responsible for the antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. An attempt is made in this work to formulate microsponges of Phyllanthus amarus by emulsion solvent diffusion method using ethyl cellulose as polymer in different concentrations. The plant extract was prepared by the maceration method with 95% ethanol and tested for the presence of phytochemical constituents. The flavonoid content is measured by the aluminium chloride method. The formulated microsponges were subjected to various evaluation tests, such as particle size, surface morphology etc., The F4 formulation containing plant extract and ethyl cellulose in the ratio of 1:2 was considered as the best formulation. The selected formulation was incorporated in carbopol gel and subjected to various evaluation studies. Keywords: Phyllanthus amarus, Microsponges, maceration, flavonoid content, aluminium chloride method. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
