DETAIL REVIEW OF MICROPLASTICS IMPACT ON THE HUMAN HEALTH AND DETECTION TECHNIQUES

ABSTRACT Microplastics, small plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in size, have become ubiquitous pollutants in the environment, entering both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Recent studies have raised concerns regarding the potential impact of microplastics on human health, as they can be ingested or inhaled through contaminated food, water, and air. While the direct health effects of microplastics on humans remain an area of ongoing research, evidence suggests that these particles may lead to physical damage, inflammation, and potentially contribute to long-term diseases such as cancer or endocrine disruption. This paper explores the current understanding of microplastics' impact on human health, highlighting their potential to cause toxicological effects due to their size, chemical composition, and ability to absorb harmful substances. Additionally, the detection of microplastics in environmental and biological samples is critical for assessing exposurelevels. A variety of techniques, including microscopy, spectroscopy, and chromatographic methods, have been developed for microplastic detection, each with its advantages and limitations. The paper reviews these detection methods and discusses their application in monitoring human exposure. Given the increasing prevalence of microplastics in the environment, it is essential to advance both research on their health impacts and detection techniques to mitigate their potential risks to human health.
