ABSTRACT

RA or Rheumatoid arthritis affects about 1% of the global population, predominantly women aged 35-60. Symptoms include joint pain, swelling, and stiffness, along with nodules, warmth, redness, and dryness in the mouth and eyes. Conventional treatments like NSAIDs and Duloxetine have significant side effects, making herbal remedies like Nyctanthes arbor-tristis (NAT) appealing due to their efficacy and minimal adverse effects. Fresh NAT leaves, collected and authenticated in December 2023, were used to formulate Sodium alginate and Gelatin transdermal patches. These patches were tested for antiarthritic properties. Rats were given Complete Freund's Adjuvant (CFA) to induce RA, and the effectiveness of the patches was contrasted with that of diclofenac sodium. Patches were applied topically for 21 days post-arthritis induction. NAT is a promisingtreatment for RA, with the Sodium alginate patch being notably effective in reducing paw edema. The Sodium alginate patch showed substantial inhibition of paw edema: 44.79% on Day 7, 55.14% on Day 14, and 68.32% on Day 21. The Gelatin patch exhibited less inhibition: 37.50% on Day 7, 46.73% on Day 14, and 57.43% on Day 21.
