A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY ON THE PHARMACOGNOSY AND PHYTOCHEMICALS OF LODHRA (SYMPLOCOS RACEMOSA ROXB.) BARK

ABSTRACT Background: The present article reveals the Pharmacognocy and Phytochemical study of Lodhra (Symplocos Racemosa Roxb.) Bark. Material & Method: Pharmacognostical Studies and Phytochemical Studies were carried out to supplement the necessary information for the systematic identification and authentication of this plant. Observation & Result: Bark is dark grey in color, uneven and rough surface and thick up to 1-2cm. When breaked, fracture is Short and somewhat smooth fibrous in inner region. In microscopic studies the presence of cork, cortex, phloem, medullary rays, secretory canal, lumened fibers, tangential longitudinal view of medullary ray cells with fibers, starch grain, stone cells. The powder microscopy studies showed presence of fiber, cell with brown pigment, cork in sectional view, sclereides, starch grains, prismatic crystal of calcium oxalate. Conclusion: The structures which are observed here, helps in correct identification of Lodhra (Symplocos Racemosa Roxb.) Bark.
