Dr. B. Chandrika*, Dr. G. Nagaraju, G. Vyshnavi, N. Eshwarasree, K. Vennela, M. Sunny, D. Venkatalakshmi and R. Swetha.
ABSTRACT Hysterectomy, the surgical removal of the uterus, has a rich history dating back to ancient civilizations. Over the centuries, the procedure has evolved, and various techniques have been developed. Today, hysterectomy is performed for a range of indications, including gynaecologic cancers, fibroids, endometriosis, and uterine prolapse. This review provides an overview of the history of hysterectomy, its various types, including abdominal, vaginal, laparoscopic, and robotic-assisted approaches. We also discuss the indications for hysterectomy, including benign and malignant conditions. Furthermore, we examine the potential complications of hysterectomy, including infections, venous thromboembolism, nerve injury, vaginal cuff dehiscence, and ovarian failure. We also discuss the impact of hysterectomy on women's quality of life, including sexual function and mental health. This comprehensive review aims to provide healthcare providers and patients with a thorough understanding of hysterectomy, its benefits, and its risks. By examining the history, types, indications, and complications of hysterectomy, we hope to promote informed decision-making and optimal patient care. In the conclusion we say hysterectomy procedures of abdominal and vaginal are economically friendly where as laparoscopic procedure has minimal side effects.
