ABSTRACT

Pakshaghat, commonly referred to as paralysis or hemiplegia, is a condition characterized by the sudden onset of motor function loss, often affecting one side of the body. In Ayurveda, Pakshaghat is considered a disorder resulting from vitiation of Vata dosha, leading to a disturbance in the neurological system and muscular function. This case study explores the Ayurvedic management of Pakshaghat, focusing on the holistic treatment approach that combines internal medications, Panchakarma therapies and Physiotherapy . The study delves into the role of Ayurvedic medicine such as Yogendra ras, Ekangveer ras, and Vat vidhwanshak ras and therapeutic techniques like Abhyanga (oil massage), Swedan, Shirobasti and Basti (enema therapy) in alleviating symptoms and restoring function. The case highlights the individualized approach based on the patient's prakriti(constitution), the stage of the disease, and the presence of any underlying imbalances. Results of the intervention are discussed, emphasizing the positive outcomes in improving muscle strength, coordination, and quality of life. In the present case patient presented with left side Pakshaghat and treated with Panchakarma therapy, which included Shirobasti and Basti. Shiro basti and kala Basti karna given for 16 days. After treatment patient was 100% cured.
