A REVIEW ON STRYCHNOS NUX VOMICA

ABSTRACT Strychnos Nux vomica or commonly known as crow fig seed, Ma-Quian-zi (Chinese), or Kapeelu (Ayurveda) is belonging to family loganiaceae. It is a deciduous tree grows in tropical areas of India and south Asia. It consists of Strychnine, Bruchine, Loganine, Pseudostrychine, caffic acid, P-hydroxy phenyl acetic acid, etc compounds. It was traditionally used in Chinese medicine to treat nervous diseases, Vomiting, Arthritic and traumic pains. Now-a-days it is commonly used for Eczema, Rheumatism, Paralysis, Asthma, Diabetes and piles. The botany, ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology of S. nux-vomica L. are all reviewed in this study, which lays the groundwork for further research. The main focus of this paper is to explain in detailed all the pharmacological and therapeutic properties of Strychnos Nux Vomica for future related research and medicinal researches, to offer thorough and pertinentinformation about the pharmacological actions and application of Strychnos nux-vomica Linn.
