Abstract

A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF THE PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL CONNECTIONS AND CLINICAL MANAGEMENT BETWEEN GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE AND DIABETES MELLITUS

ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus and gastroesophageal reflux disease [GERD] are two common chronic illnesses that have a major impact on people’s health all over the world. Recent research has indicated a complicated interaction between the two states, despite their apparent lack of connection. This systematic review synthesizes data from multiple studies to clarifies the intricate relationship between diabetes mellitus and gastroesophageal reflux disease [GERD], highlighting pathophysiological links and practical clinical management techniques. With common risk factors and overlapping clinical symptoms, the pathophysiological relationship between GERD and DM are intricate and reciprocal, necessitating a thorough and interdisciplinary approach for efficient therapeutic therapy. Polyneuropathy is a frequent consequence of diabetes. Gastro enteropathy and other severe symptoms that significantly lower quality of life is linked to neuropathies in the enteric nerve system. Nausea, vomiting, dysphagia, dyspepsia, and fecal incontinence are among the pleomorphic symptoms. Our analysis shows that autonomic neuropathy and delayed stomach emptying are two major processes that exacerbate GERD symptoms in diabetic patients, impacting therapy effectiveness and clinical outcomes. The significance of this burden among different patient groups and the underlying pathophysiology, including the relationship between symptoms and glycaemic control, are still poorly understood, gastrointestinal [GI] parameters of diabetes mellitus, GERD, pathophysiology, and management, we looked for review publications that had been published during the last ten years. This study give medical professionals a targeted summary of both present and upcoming pharmacological therapeutic approaches. To find published research, a thorough literature search was carried out using several databases, including PubMed, and google scholar.
