DADIMA (PUNICA GRANATUM LINN.) IN THE CONTEXT OF AYURVEDIC THERAPEUTICS: INSIGHTS FROM NIGHANTU

ABSTRACT Introduction: Dadima (Punica granatum Linn.), or pomegranate, is a revered plant in Ayurveda, known for its wide-ranging therapeutic benefits. By reviewing multiple Nighantu, this article highlights the evolving therapeutic uses of Dadima and emphasizes the need for scientific validation and further research on its bioactive compounds to integrate Ayurvedic remedies into modern healthcare. Materials and Methods: Total 22 Ayurvedic Nighantu were referred for the collection of data regarding Dadima (Punica granatum Linn.). Results: Collection of information of the Dadima (Punica granatum Linn.) from 22 Nighantu revealed 43 synonyms (Karaka, Kuttima, Phalashadava, Raktakusuma, Raktapushpa, Shukavallabha, etc.), different types of Dadima based upon Rasa, 13 Karma (Deepana, Grahi, Hridya, Rochana, etc.) and 12 indications (Daha, Jwara, Truhsna, Hridroga, Kantharoga, etc.). Discussion: Synonyms of Dadima described in various Nighantu provide crucial information regarding itsmorphology, hence helping in its identification.
