PHARMACOGNOSY OF RAUVOLFIA TETRAPHYLLA L. ROOT

ABSTRACT The genus Rauvolfia tetraphylla L. belongs to family Apocynaceae found in India. Commonly known Be still tree or Devil pepper. The roots are useful in the treatment of hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and as a tranquilizing agent. The extract of the root is valuable for intestinal problems. Roots are believed to stimulate uterine contraction in case of difficult delivery (Ramchandra and Kashyapa et al,. 1986). The present study was carried out to investigate morphological, microscopical characters. The result study was useful for drawing pharmacognostic parameters. Keywords: .
