ACALYPHA INDICA LINN (HARITHA MANJARI) - PHYTOCHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS AND USES IN THE FIELD OF PHARMACOLOGY AND COSMETICS: A REVIEW

ABSTRACT Herbs are one of the main sources for various drug molecules. This review explores about the various phytochemical constituents and the numerous applications of different parts such as leaves, roots, stem of Acalypha indica in the field of pharmacology and cosmetics. Acalypha indica is a weed herb, which is usually found in road places as well as in forests abundantly. It is an important Indian plant which is used widely in Ayurveda and Siddha systems of medicine for managing various diseases that occurring on skin. The variety of constituents, such as flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids, pyranoquinolinone alkaloid, cyanogenetic glucoside, present in the plant, shows wider ranges of activity, including antivenom, wound healing, anti-fungal, antioxidant, diuretics, anticonvulsant, antimalarial, and antiulcer etc. Keywords: Acalypha indica, flavonoids, anti-fungal, anti-oxidant.
