Pooja Sahu, Dr. Manish Kumar and Dr. Arvind Sharma*
ABSTRACT Present study has been focussed on the phytochemical screening andantimicrobial study of methanolic extract of leaves of Solanum nigrumin Gwalior region (M.P.). The phytochemical compounds like tannins, phenols, alkaloids, flavonoides, terpenoids, anthrocyanin, steroids andsaponins were studied qualitatively. The Phytochemical screeningresults revealed that the alkaloids tannins are abundantly found. Otherphytochemical compounds such as saponins, flavonoides were more orless presence in Solanum nigrum. Antimicrobial activity suggested thatleaf extract has great impact on klebsiella pneumoniae, and also foundeffective against E.coli. Leaf extract also have significant antifungalactivity against Candida albicans. Thus the present investigationsuggested that Solanum nigrum composed of antimicrobial compoundsthat can be utilized as futuristic antimicrobial drug.
