A COMPHREHENSIVE REVIEW ON FLOATING DRUG DELIVARY SYSTEM
Sakshi Sushant Rashinkar* Ganesh Virsen Taware and Tanaya Sunil Pawar
ABSTRACT The potential of gastro retentive drug delivery systems (GRDDS) to improve patient compliance and treatment efficacy by extending stomach residence time and optimising drug release kinetics has attracted a lot of attention recently. This paper offers a thorough summary of the most recent developments in GRDDS, with an emphasis on design concepts, evaluation techniques, and formulation tactics. A detailed discussion of several strategies is given, emphasising their modes of action and uses in targeted drug delivery, including floating systems, mucoadhesive systems, expandable systems, and magnetic systems. Additionally, new GRDDS with enhanced biocompatibility, stability, and controlled release profiles have been made possible by recent advancements in formulation technologies and materials science. This review of floating multiparticulate preparation aims to gather the most recent research with a particular emphasis on the formulation and classification aspects, the main mechanism of floatation to achieve gastric retention, and the characterisation of floating multiparticulate systems. This review primarily focusses on the characterisations and applications of gastro-retentive floating drug delivery systems. GRDDS is used to overcome the difficulties associated with conventional oral dosage forms and to release the drug at a specific absorption site to improve bioavailability of particular drug substances. Some floating drug delivery systems have demonstrated the capability to accommodate these variations without affecting drug release. Keywords: stomach retention, floating system and multiparticulate system. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
