GC-MS ANALYSIS FOR BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS AND PHARMACOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF ANTIANGIOGENIC ACTIVITIES OF ETHANOLIC EXTRACTION OF LANTANA CAMARA
Thotla Phebe and V. Venkata Rajesham*
ABSTRACT The use of herbal products as traditional medicine has been common in India for centuries. Due to ethnic diversity, the options for herbal remedies are vast and herbal remedies are often preferred over modern medicines in certain parts of the country. Cancer is one of the most important non-communicable diseases affecting people worldwide. Despite extensive research, cancer is still a disease that is not fully understood and efforts are ongoing to find new drugs and approaches to cancer treatment. Lantana camara, an important medicinal plant and rich in terpenoids, has been widely studied for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In this study, crude extracts of Lantana camara were measured. Using a series of tests on zebrafish embryos and chicken egg chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) tests, gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry was performed to identify bioactive molecules and antiangiogenic properties present in Lantana camara ethanol extracts (EELCs). Antiangiogenic properties were more pronounced in the extracts. Although preliminary, the findings suggest that Lantana camara has strong antiangiogenic properties and could be further studied to isolate active phytochemicals for use as therapeutic agents. Keywords: Lantana camara, Angiogenesis, Chicken egg Chorioallantoic Membrane (CAM) Assay, zebrafish embryos. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
