EFFECT OF TIKTKSHEER BASTI IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ASTHI MAJJA GAT VATA W.S.R TO AVASCULAR NECROSIS (HIP JOINT): (A CASE STUDY)

ABSTRACT

Avascular necrosis is a condition that occurs due to loss of blood supply to the bone which leads to cellular death of bone tissue. A patient age 43 years already diagnosed with AVN on the basis of MRI report was admitted in SKS ayurvedic college and hospital chaumuha Mathura. The patient was diagnosed as Asthi majja gat vata as per ayurvedic prospective. The treatment given to the patient is sthanic sneh dhara with bala aswagandhadi tailum and the tikt ksheer basti (tikt ksheer basti as niruh and anuvasan with balaguluchyadi tail) as kaal basti karma (16 days regime). Medicines selected for oral intake are dashmool kwath 30 ml twice daily before meal along with panchtikt ghrith gugglu, Tab Asthiposhak 2 tab twice daily after meal. Two set of kaal basti karm were scheduled with a gap of 2-3 months. Before starting the treatment, patient was suffering from severe pain in left leg, particularly the lower back, radiating to groin area. After one treatment course the result were somewhat better but after the second treatment course patient was much improved. This case shows that ayurveda treatment can be helpful in the management of avascular necrosis of neck of femur.
