Aiswariya C.S. Nair*, Aswathy B.R., Sona Biju, Dr. Seena H.
ABSTRACT Cosmetics are a category of health and beauty products which is derived from natural or synthetic products. The word "cosmetics" derived from the Greek word "kosmeticos," which means "to adorn." The purpose of cosmetics is to improve the way the human body looks or smells. Cosmetics include skincare creams, ointments, lipsticks, scents, lotion, facial makeup and hair colours. Cosmetics appear as solids, semisolids, or liquids and could be formulated as solutions, creams, emulsions, lotions, suspensions, ointments, pastes, powders, gels, sticks, pencils, tablets, capsules or aerosols. Cosmeceuticals are the fastest-growing section of the natural personal care business since they give skin and hair an appealing look.[1] Lip balms are products that work for both men and women, regardless of gender. Lip balm or lip dressing is a wax-like material applied to the lips to moisturize and relieve chapped or dry lips, angular stomatitis or cold sores. Lip balm often contains beeswax or carnauba wax, camphor, cetyl alcohol, lanolin, paraffin, petrolatum and other constituents. Lip balm containing herbal ingredients can enhance its effects and can decrease its adverse effects, while synthetic lip balm contains chemical ingredients.
