ABSTRACT Infertility can be a stressful life event because of the high societal value placed on having children. It is the worldwide health issue impacting millions of people of reproductive age. The inability of a sexually active, non-contraceptive couple to become pregnant in a year is known as infertility. According to available data nearly 4.9 billion couples globally are affected with infertility.[1] One in every six persons in the world will experience it over their lifetime. In India, around 27.5 million people are infertile.[2] This has raised awareness and inspired researchers investigate its physiological impact. According to Ayurveda, important factors for conception include Ritu, Kshetra, Ambu and Bija as well as normal Hridaya levels, proper functioning of Vayu and Shadbhava.[3] Kama, Shoka, Bhaya, Krodha, Harsha, Irshya and Moha all contribute to Manas Vikara.[4] Unfortunately, in many hospitals women are treated for infertility while their psychologicalwell-being is frequently ignored. Hence here is an attempt to highlight the importance of Manas Bhava in relation to infertility through Ayurvedic perspective with emphasis on different modality of treatment as per Ayurveda classics.
